Details: From 1907 to 1937, THE CANNERY and the Argonaut Hotel were known as Del Monte Plant #1. Just a few years after it was built it was considered the most productive fruit, vegetable and fish cannery in the world, employing over 2,000 people. After sixty-five years, Del Monte has restored its historic link to this location by putting the Del Monte name back on the block. Del Monte partnered with THE CANNERY to renovate the courtyard by converting the warehouse into three levels of winding walkways, balconies and bridges surrounding 130 year-old olive trees.
This area at the foot of Columbus Street is now known as Del Monte Square. Today it is the home of The Argonaut Hotel, The San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park and Visitors Center, thirty-five one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants, offices, nightclubs, a weekly Certified Organic Farmers Market and daily live entertainment. We are pleased to dedicate this site through a special ceremony.
